Metadata has quickly gone from an unusual buzz word to an item at the top of everyone’s agenda. Often mistakenly looked upon as an operational standard, it is a tool that all publishing departments can use to help customers find books. In this session, Len Vlahos of the Book Industry Study Group will define metadata, identify why it should matter to all stakeholders involved in the creation, distribution and sale of books, and discuss best practices for creating and distributing metadata. This session interprets research conducted by BISG and on the first substantial revision to its metadata best practices in more than five years.
